You will be surprised to learn that …
There was only one Naturist Resort in Crete until the late 80's
The history of this very special naturist hotel, as you may well suspect, is an interesting one. Despite having all the perfect ingredients for such clothing optional resorts - a rugged coastline with undiscovered bays, fiercely-guarded privacy, and of course limitless sunshine - until the late 80s there was only one hotel in Crete operating as a naturist hotel.
Our Resort was not naturist from the beginning
Built by the Family Dourountakis, a local family with many years experience of providing good value food and accommodation, coupled with excellent customer service, Vritomartis opened in 1989. It was not initially a naturist resort but simply a 'normal' hotel providing food and accommodation for those seeking a "sunshine holiday" in private and comfortable surroundings.
A guest gave us the idea of Naturist Hotel
In the second year of operations one guest, a committed naturist, suggested that Vritomartis would make a wonderful naturist resort. This interesting but 'challenging' thought, prompted the family to seriously consider the potential for such a venture. After much planning, investigation and discussion, (and not a little soul-searching) the decision was taken in 1992 to re-brand as a naturist hotel and clothes-optional resort. The rest, as they say, is 'history' - and a history of which the Family Dourountakis can be very proud.
Our Vision has been achieved as guests now regard themselves as our "friends"
The "Vritomartis Vision" for their nudist resort was, from the very start, to treat guests as though they were family friends, to provide warm and generous hospitality with superb service. The ultimate objective was to ensure that guests enjoyed the freedom of their naturist holiday resort and yet felt truly to be 'at home'.
The "Vision" has been achieved and so much more besides. One of the best independent measures of this success is to read the Resort GuestBook & Reviews section. Not only are the comments positive and complimentary, they are written by guests who return year after year to this family-run and family-focused naturist hotel, "guests" who now regard themselves as "friends".
